We hope you enjoy visiting our site and getting to know more about the people and mission of St. John's Church in Bedford, Virginia.

The City of Bedford is located at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Central Virginia. The parish of St. John's has been active in this area since 1847.  The current church building, with its gothic design and beautiful stained glassed windows, was erected in 1924. The warm wood interior and striking architecture are welcome features to those who come and worship here.

St. John's is a very caring congregation with an extremely committed Vestry, membership, and Rector.  No one is a stranger for long here at St. John's.  All who come through these doors are welcome, valued, and appreciated, and that includes you!   We invite you to visit us whenever you are in the area.  (For directions & service times,  please click here.)

Please browse our other pages to learn more about St. John's.  We think you will enjoy reading the "Weekly Sermons" pages as well as the "Cyber Gleanings" pages which feature our Rector's monthly letter and our monthly church newsletter.  Our links page offers access to some informative sites about Bedford and the surrounding area, the Episcopal Diocese of SW Virginia, and other Episcopal and miscellaneous sites of interest.

The St. John's Mission Statement:

“St. John’s Episcopal Church strives to teach God’s word and do God’s work to improve the spiritual and physical well-being of its congregation and the surrounding community.”

The St. John's Mission Statement:

"Almighty God, source of all that we are and all that we have; we thank you for the many ways you have blessed us and this parish family. We remember before you this day our patron Saint John We ask for the indwelling of your Holy Spirit that, like him, we may be a people of courage. As you work in us and through us;

Let our deeds defend the weak,

Let our words provide comfort and encouragement to the broken,

Let our strength raise up the fallen,

Let our hearts be aflame with your love,

Let our awareness of your presence keep us open to the stranger among us,

Let us wear as our armor the reconciling love of your Son, Jesus the Christ.

Mercifully help us see beyond the many gifts we have received the one true gift -- the abundance of your Incarnate love poured out upon us and for us through your Son Jesus Christ, in whose Name we pray.  Amen."

The St. John's Mission Statement:

Be careful as you go into God's creation....for it does not belong to you. Be gentle with yourself and others....for we are the dwelling place of the Most High. Be alert and be silent....for God is a whisper. The blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, the Holy Ghost be amongst you and remain with you always. Amen
